The American Evaluation Association (AEA) is excited to welcome participation in the Evaluation 2026 buddy program. The Evaluation 2026 Buddy Program pairs AEA conference veterans with first- and second-time conference attendees. This program is best suited for new attendees who are primarily focused and practicing domestically in the United States. Since we had an overwhelming response to the call for buddies last year, veterans will have 3-4 each in a small pod. This is more informal connection opportunity with guidance provided on how to connect (see below) but with no required heavy lifts.
AEA Conference Veteran
- A conference veteran is someone who has attended at least three previous AEA conferences and is comfortable answering questions, sharing tips, and introducing one or more newbies to other AEA members and conference attendees.
Before the Conference
- Email your buddy to introduce yourself and set an agreed-upon time and location to meet at the conference.
During the Conference
- At your first meet-up, exchange contact information to stay in touch. If your buddy is available, invite them to the opening plenary and discuss other sessions, meals, or social activities you might attend together. As the conference progresses, be available to answer any questions, share tips on maximizing their experience, and introduce them to other AEA members.
After the Conference
- Contact your buddy for a quick debrief of the conference.
AEA Conference Newbie
Welcome! We’re incredibly excited to welcome you to the AEA conference! A conference newbie is someone who has attended no more than two AEA conferences and is looking for a buddy to help them get the most out of their Evaluation 2026 experience. As a newbie, expect to:
- Introduce yourself via email to your AEA Veteran prior to the annual conference.
- Meet up with your Veteran at the conference.
- Bring any questions you have pertaining to the conference and be prepared to meet some wonderful new colleagues!
