Session Abstract (150 words):

When addressing issues of equity in education, the research and evaluation methods often rely on comparisons between groups using outcomes for members of the privileged groups as the standard by which success is measured. MAEC Inc. is a non-profit organization devoted to promoting excellence and equity in education to achieve social justice. This workshop session will explore methods needed to meaningfully evaluate disparities and inequities between those students who experience them and those who do not.  MAEC evaluation and technical assistance staff will: 1) highlight MAEC’s asset-based approach to addressing equity issues; 2) lead small group discussions focused on brainstorming new ways to think about and measure equity issues in education; and 3) lead a whole group discussion about how to change the way we measure inequities that is more empowering and positive.
