Session Abstract (150 words):

Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) has been working with multicultural youth in Saint Paul since 2006 to develop their interest and skills to be leaders in their community. In recent years, these skills have broadened to include youth involvement and leadership in designing and evaluating the program. This experience has transformed YLI culture and led to the creation of Youth Participatory Evaluation (YPE) guide. The user-friendly guide, developed with collaboration of youth, program staff, and researchers, walks through YPE steps: determining your YPE values, outlining your YPE story, making program improvements, and reflecting on your YPE story. In this session, we will provide a brief overview of the YPE guide and how it can be used by youth development programs to build their youth capacity to be active contributors in evaluation. Then, youth will engage attendees in fun YPE practices, as if they were participants themselves.
