Session Abstract (150 words):

Organizations that use advocacy as a strategy often struggle with measurement, learning and evaluation (MLE) of those efforts. Embedding MLE tools and practices successfully requires engagement across the organization so that senior leadership prioritize MLE and understand how to incentivize it, and advocates are enabled and empowered to use it to do their work better. In this session, we will demonstrate a diagnostic process to engage organizations in structured reviews of their explicit and implicit MLE capacities and practices. Using an “Advocacy MLE Capacity Wheel”, the process is aimed at building organizations’ understanding of the various influences on internal advocacy MLE and identifying priorities for development. Participants in this session will learn how “the Wheel” can be used with organizations with different scopes, priorities, and in different geographies and contexts. Through interactive exercises, participants will test the tool, share feedback, and consider how to apply it in their own practices.
