Session Abstract (150 words): 

This Birds of a Feather Gathering invites youth-focused evaluators to discuss about the stickiness of everyday ethics and the ethical tensions that arise throughout the evaluation cycle and in partnerships. Young people are increasingly being invited to take active roles in evaluations and studies that affect them. In order to do this, youth-focused evaluators need to navigate institutional and legal requirements (particularly related to age, cognition, and the legal status of young people) while being responsive to the needs and preferences of participants and other stakeholders (e.g., parents/legal guardians). To bring leadership and renewal to the profession, youth-focused evaluators must advance reflexivity (Berger 2015; Guilleman & Gillam, 2004) and balance procedural ethics with the ethics of practice. Participants will be invited to share ethical challenges encountered in practice (e.g., related to confidentiality or voluntariness), and strategies they successfully used to balance institutional and ethics committees’ rules with actual evaluation processes.

All refunds are processed after the meeting. After October 11, 2019 all sales are final. For Evaluation 2019, international attendees and presenters who encounter complications due to the international travel environment will have up to 30 days after the event to request a refund and submit appropriate documentation. No administrative fee will apply for approved international requests.
