Session Abstract (150 words):
Evaluation in summer learning programs and camps is an emerging area rich with possibilities, given the ways these programs serve increasingly diverse populations through a wide variety of novel educational experiences. We will share and practice using three tools created, tested, and normed by the American Camp Association for use in summer learning programs, camps, and other youth programs. The tools provide outcome evidence from different perspectives: parents, counselors, and campers. Easy for evaluators or camp staff to implement, use of these tools can increase the evaluation capacity and sustainability of evaluation processes in summer learning programs and camps. By the end of this session, participants will be able to describe three tools to measure youth outcomes in summer camps or learning programs; identify issues related to sharing results of camp and summer learning evaluations, and practice planning evaluations in a camp or summer program context.
