Session Abstract (150 words):
Peacebuilding occurs in complex, fragile, and conflict-affected contexts and must be highly responsive to these shifting contexts, yet current M&E frameworks are often too rigid and linear to allow for adaptive learning and programming. Current practices in DM&E are too often divorced from thinking about the systems in which projects operate and do not leave room for iteration and adaptation; especially within fragile environments. Current practice in donor funding and reporting do not give programs the flexibility they need for course changes and project re-alignment in periods of rapid fluctuation in the operating environment. This roundtable will explore the ongoing technical and political challenges of implementing and monitoring adaptive management approaches in peacebuilding programs, and the implications of adaptive management for traditional donor regulations and reporting.
