Session Abstract (150 words):

Any manager today has millennials on their mind. These young people are graduating with more degrees, varied experiences, and a drive to make change in the world. Evaluation is a great setting for these motivated critical thinkers!  Managing them, though, can be a challenge. During the poster session I will present some myths about millennials, share some common mistakes managers make leading them, and the must-dos I've learned for retaining talent. Stop by to get some "take aways" for some concrete strategies she has used to engage these new evaluators and foster their intrinsic motivation in an internal research group (K-12 educational evaluation). Please come by and share your stories and chat with me about what you've learned and your latest struggles. Topics to explore include: structuring supervision, providing feedback, building a collaborative atmosphere, offering learning and development opportunities, and creating an enjoyable workplace.
