Session Abstract (150 words):

Youth-led evaluation expanded opportunity for young people to analyze youth programs, practices and policies and share informed ideas about what works and why.  A desired outcome of these initiatives is often described as giving young people a voice. Codified in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, it has become a signature idea in the ongoing efforts to support youth participation and increase opportunities for young people to contribute to their communities.  It has also received appropriate criticism. Youth participatory efforts celebrate youth voice but often their ideas do not have an impact when it comes to program changes, practice innovations, or policy creation and revision. Their voice has volume but no strength. This is only true when voice is considered simply as young people’s public talk.  In this birds of a feather, we explore Meacham (2004) expanded definition of youth voice and how it can be used to shape and strengthen youth-led evaluation efforts.
