Session Abstract (150 words):

Through our Liberia MEL activity, we have had to deliver hard news to the donor based on evaluation results.

How do you speak truth to power when the donor has so much at stake? Bad results can mean cuts to funding, even for the donor, and our evaluations can become highly politicized. This presentation will explore two evaluation cases that revealed how the development initiatives were creating inefficient returns on investment or simply not making progress at all. The findings from the evaluation determined that transformation was necessary, and we will discuss how we worked with the donor to adapt and also make some tough decisions.
