Session Abstract (150 words):

Many nonprofits struggle with fulfilling grant funded evaluation requirements and lack the necessary expertise to successfully implement evaluation best practices. Meanwhile, resource constraints often mean that existing staff must find the time and support to conduct evaluations in-house. The panel will consider how nonprofits can build capacity to carry out relevant evaluation activities. Specifically, the panelists will discuss how they have expanded evaluation capacity in the nonprofit law firm setting and how these experiences may apply to other nonprofit settings. Drawing upon their experiences as internal evaluators, the panelists will discuss the challenges of balancing their roles with the roles of other program staff and with external evaluators. Finally, this panel will present an innovative new project, the Evaluation Feedback Project, designed to match volunteer evaluators within and outside of the legal field with legal aid organizations to build evaluation capacity one evaluation tool at a time.
