Session Abstract (150 words):

For organizations seeking to rapidly scale a program or initiative, evaluation can seem slow, rigid, and irrelevant to changing needs. This think tank session will highlight two examples of how evaluation has been structured and implemented in ways that effectively aid strategic learning among organizations involved in scaling, and engage participants in a conversation about challenges, opportunities, and cutting-edge evaluation practice. One case will explore an evaluation of Summit Learning, an initiative to expand personalized learning from 19 to 130 to more than 300 schools in two years. The other focuses on Network Anaheim, a network of service providers addressing holistic needs of youth and families. Facilitators will share methods and approaches to addressing truly “developmental” evaluation needs, strategies for engaging groups in intentional learning from data in ways that drive decision-making, and how organizations make the case for supporting evaluation in a scaling context.
