Session Abstract (150 words):
This experiential session engages participants in the experience of using photography to create spaces for youth learning and self-evaluation in the context of a larger study on youth perceptions in conflict-affected areas. In the three-country study of youth’s perceptions of ideal soft skills in which the evaluators explored this approach, youth’s photography allowed for photo-elicitation (Hurworth et. al. 2005) that not only provided key data for the study, but also created a space for youth to examine their own preconceptions and engage in sense-making of the data themselves. Participants in this session will be plunged into engaging not just with the 3-country study’s findings, but into the experience of using reflexive photography to both elicit participant data for evaluation and to create spaces for reflective learning.
