Session Abstract (150 words): 

This skill-building workshop features experienced independent evaluation consultants demonstrating and sharing some of their hard-earned lessons on managing a consulting business. A series of eight topic tables led by an experienced table leader who is prepared to share information about a topic they enjoy and do well. This session uses a speed-dating approach to learning. Every 10-15 minutes participants will circulate to a different topic table with a different table leader. Each table leader will prepare a two-page summary of helpful hints and resources for the participants. Topics will include: “Deciding to start, grow, or discontinue a consulting business”, “Capacity Building;”, “Life beyond the report: supporting data driven decisions.”, “Cultivating good clients/generating repeat business”, “The balancing culture: having a consulting practice and a life.”, “Dealing with Difficult Clients: how to handle problems, stay positive and know when it’s time to say goodbye”, “Mentoring younger evaluators in a small shop,” and "Systems That Increase Your Productivity and Build Your Business."

Cancellation Policy: Refunds less a $50 fee will be granted for requests received in writing prior to 11:59 PM EDT October 16, 2017. Email cancellation requests to registration@eval.org. Fax request to (202) 367-2173. All refunds are processed after the meeting. After October 16, 2017 all sales are final. For Evaluation 2017, international attendees and presenters who encounter complications due to the international travel environment will have up to 30 days after the event to request a refund and submit appropriate documentation. No administrative fee will apply for the international requests. The $50 fee will be waived for registrants who planned to travel into the US and experienced international travel issues.
