Session Abstract (150 words):

The Philippines E-PESO Activity, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Chemonics international, focuses on collaborating with the Philippine Central Bank and the electronic payment industry to achieve rapid, widespread increases in electronic payment (e-Payment) adoption and use. This represents a significant challenge as shifting from a 99% cash-based economy to electronic in terms of number of transactions is key in developing a lasting, inclusive economic infrastructure that sets the stage for new financial products that explicitly meet the needs of those struggling to escape poverty. The demonstration session will provide participants an overview of the challenges, describe the modeling methods and demonstrate how the model assisted the team in prioritizing interventions and provide meaningful information to decision makers.
