Session Abstract (150 words):
This presentation focuses on recent experiences of the thematic working group of the Senegalese evaluation association in promoting and developing evaluation capacity related to children and youth participation. In our approach, we attempt to record and document initiatives and efforts recently developed to effectively involve children and youth in evaluation, research or related studies.Our collaboration with child centered NGOs (UNICEF, SCI, Child Fund), academic resource persons, other VOPEs, has provided valuable insights on how to involve children and youth in evaluation with a focus on type of participation and the benefits of participation itself. Key outcomes from consultations, workshops, and conferences will be shared as well as critical challenges to ensuring children and youth participation in evaluation. Practical ways of working with them will be explored. The presentation will review good practices and strategies, and propose ways to address identified challenges to strengthen participation, and to develop appropriate M&E capacities.
