Session Abstract (150 words):
Youth participation in development processes is a growing trend, demanded by the large youth-bulge in the Global South. For programs and policies that target or affect youth to be relevant, young people themselves must be informing implementation - necessitating youth participation in monitoring and evaluation activities. Doing so provides programmes with greater relevance and also presents an opportunity to leverage young people’s unique perspectives and skill sets - bringing together conventional evaluation practise with innovative new approaches. This presentation will draw upon the experiences of Oaktree, who conduct youth-led, peer-to-peer evaluations of their education projects in Timor-Leste and Cambodia. This model can reduce evaluator-subject power imbalances and promote rapport through shared identities - leading to more open and nuanced dialogue. It will also explore young people’s value-add in innovative approaches to evaluation data collection and dissemination, as the often first-adopters of new technologies and through their wide online networks.

For Evaluation 2017, international attendees and presenters who encounter complications due to the international travel environment will have up to 30 days after the event to request a refund and submit appropriate documentation. No administrative fee will apply for the international requests. The $50 fee will be waived for registrants who planned to travel into the US and experienced international travel issues.
