Session Abstract (150 words):

As organizations deepen their expectations for performance and outcome data, there is a growing need to improve data literacy among individuals to enhance organizational capacity for impact.  Among afterschool providers, this demand is especially challenging as youth development professionals are often overworked and underpaid part-time employees responsible for transforming the lives of young people living in the most underserved communities. Boys & Girls Clubs of America has had success in increasing data understanding and use among professionals by training staff through a Data Walk, where participants walk through data and draw insights, illustrating a practical way to help stakeholders learn from information gathered and apply it for program and organizational improvement.  This experiential learning session will demonstrate the data walk technique, engaging participants to interpret and plan with data, while simultaneously modeling high-quality youth development practices that will drive outcomes for young people.
