Session Abstract (150 words): 

Evaluators are adapting their roles and approaches to meet the changing needs and expectations of philanthropy, particularly in the context of systems and community change efforts. Funders are increasingly interested in engaging evaluators who contribute to strategy development and community relationships in addition to measuring success. This positions evaluators as key knowledge-brokers and influencers, a role that can be tricky to manage. In this session, we share lessons about shifting roles and approaches using two case studies from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation’s work to ensure all children are healthy and ready for school.  We will engage participants in discussion around the following ideas articulated in this year’s conference theme:

  • What do users want to learn from evaluation, and how can we enhance stakeholder involvement?
  • How can evaluators become knowledge-brokers and contribute to knowledge-based decision-making?
  • How can evaluators help ensure that results are useful and get used?

Cancellation Policy: Refunds less a $50 fee will be granted for requests received in writing prior to 11:59 PM EDT October 16, 2017. Email cancellation requests to registration@eval.org. Fax request to (202) 367-2173. All refunds are processed after the meeting. After October 16, 2017 all sales are final. For Evaluation 2017, international attendees and presenters who encounter complications due to the international travel environment will have up to 30 days after the event to request a refund and submit appropriate documentation. No administrative fee will apply for the international requests. The $50 fee will be waived for registrants who planned to travel into the US and experienced international travel issues.
