Session Abstract:

In the two days prior to Evaluation 2016, two worlds—social value and evaluation—joined forces for Impact Convergence 2016 at the Carter Center in Atlanta. Impact investors, social entrepreneurs, philanthropists, impact analysts, and evaluators met for two days, learned from each other, and developed a vision for collaboratively advancing the state of the art of impact measurement. In this interactive session, you will hear from several panels of participants about what took place, the action agenda they developed, and how you can work with us to advance impact measurement for all.

The convergence of these worlds is unprecedented. Although they share similar principles, interests, and methods, they have long stood apart. On the one hand, the world of Social Value represents a brave new frontier in which organizations integrate social, environmental, and financial missions; embrace new technology and big data; and focus their attention on decision-making and resource allocation. It is a small, fast-moving world that is enjoying rapid growth. On the other hand, the world of Evaluation is home to a highly diverse group of professionals who, nonetheless, have much in common. It is a world that has grown impressively large, yet one of its defining features is its obscurity. With Impact Convergence 2016, we hope to connect the worlds more tightly as part of AEA’s efforts to develop larger communities of practice around the world.
