Session Abstract:

The proposed AEA conference poster offers a discussion of the theoretical history and critiques of democratic evaluation, as well as a synthesis of the shortcomings and successes of the approach in practice, in hopes of promoting an understanding of the basic tenets of the democratic evaluation and the criticisms it has garnered. Additionally, the poster outlines a proposed mixed methods design that will involve surveying and interviewing evaluation practitioners that have implemented the democratic framework. Ultimately, this project explores the question: what is the added value of adopting a democratic evaluative approach in practice, and under what circumstances is it advantageous to utilize this approach?
