Session Abstract:

There is a growing number of resources for evaluators interested in becoming independent consultants or who want to start their own small businesses. However, many such resources emphasize strategies for successful consulting with non-profit and community-based organizations. In contrast, there is a scarcity of advice for independent evaluators and small business owners interested in working with the Federal Government. This may result from lack of guidance on how to pursue, manage, and execute Federal work and could create missed opportunities for independent evaluators and small businesses. The purpose of this roundtable discussion is to promote information sharing about opportunities for independent consultants and small businesses within the Federal marketplace. The presenters will (1) offer strategies, tips, and tricks for capturing work, designing and managing projects, and successful consulting with Federal customers and (2) facilitate a structured discussion on roundtable participants’ experiences and advice for working with the Federal Government.
