Session Abstract:

Failures in design are often the root of more general failures. This highly interactive session will begin with four distinguished and experienced evaluators sharing a personal story of evaluation design failure to demonstrate openness to sharing and learning from failures.  Audience participants will then be invited to share their design failures.  A framework for learning from failure will be demonstrated to analyze and interpret shared exemplars of design failure.  This session will demonstrate what has come to known as a Festival of Failure, or Fail-Forward Learning Event, though not officially associated with those inititaives.

Two aspects of learning from failure are important for evaluators: (1) facilitating learning from failure among the stakeholders we work with and (2) walking the talk of learning from failure by doing it ourselves.  Building competence and capacity to learn from failure requires opportunity, skill, knowledge, and practice.  This session will demonstrate these capacities in practice.
