Session Abstract:

Starting in March 2014, JSI developed and implemented an evolving strategy to build visualization capacity through workshops, targeted resource design, and an internal data visualization learning network. As a result, staff are increasingly taking responsibility for and developing improved information-sharing products through print, web, and video. In a survey of the network, 57% of respondents had shared materials from the network with their colleagues; 78% of respondents indicated that the resources and trainings had influenced their work. Resources have received more than 9,000 slideshare views to date and the internal interest group boasts more than 200 members. The next phase emphasizes increased engagement of staff from the more than 60 countries where JSI works. This presentation will highlight the process and challenges of building organizational data visualization capacity, share network analysis results on network expansion, highlight how our strategy can be adapted to other organizations, and share resources for visualization design.
