Session Abstract:

Evaluators with a background in Excel, R, or similar tools often view visualization as a thin layer added at the end of analysis to help communicate findings. However, as modern tools make visualization more powerful and accessible, evaluators and analysts should think of visualization as a more integral part of the analytical process. This presentation will discuss how members of the Washington Families Fund Systems Initiative team led by The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Building Changes as well as King Pierce and Snohomish Counties used Tableau software to create visualizations that went beyond illustrating statistical or quantitative findings but uncovered new knowledge about homeless individuals’ experience.  This session will encourage evaluators to rethink how they can use visualization software to derive greater insight from data. Session will be led by Ted Corbett, CEO of Viztric, a Seattle based consulting firm that helps customers achieve insight through data visualization.
