Session Abstract:

The use of data dashboards is becoming increasingly commonplace among service providers. These dashboards allow the kind of rapid feedback and monitoring that supports real-time programmatic adjustments and formative assessment. They vary in complexity, ranging from high end data mining programs like Tableau to Microsoft Office based solutions. While evaluators may have access to information about what goes in a dashboard, they may not know how to actually create the spreadsheets and reports that allow for rapid feedback and reporting. This session will take the participant through the process of building a report-based dashboard, including how to structure, extract, and query data effectively and accurately. Particular attention will be paid to working between Excel and Word. Participants will also discuss how to use dashboards to build organizational capacity for evaluation, allowing service providers more ownership of their data and evaluation processes.
