Session Abstract (150 words): 

As much as we might intuitively understand that we live in an interconnected world, it can be challenging to know how to skillfully apply these concepts in evaluation practice. Although a deeply practical field, systems thinking challenges our ideas about expertise, purpose, values, and certainty in ways that are often more emotional than logical. We have been struck by how many people find systems ideas unsettling and difficult to put into practice. We frequently encounter fellow evaluators struggling with integrating systems into their own thinking and practice. This think tank will be hosted as a conversation grounded in appreciative inquiry. The presenters will share examples from their own work as inspiration for action. Small groups will brainstorm and discuss what’s possible in order to be successful in applying systems thinking to evaluation practice and how we can support each other in doing so.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds less a $50 fee will be granted for requests received in writing prior to 11:59 PM EDT October 16, 2017. Email cancellation requests to registration@eval.org. Fax request to (202) 367-2173. All refunds are processed after the meeting. After October 16, 2017 all sales are final. For Evaluation 2017, international attendees and presenters who encounter complications due to the international travel environment will have up to 30 days after the event to request a refund and submit appropriate documentation. No administrative fee will apply for the international requests. The $50 fee will be waived for registrants who planned to travel into the US and experienced international travel issues.
